A fairy catch-up blog post with plenty of pictures of fairies, winter walks, a cosy craft project, and some beautiful snowdrops...

Hello again, I hope this post finds you keeping well and having had a good start to 2025. This winter here in the UK has felt longer and colder than the last few years and as always when we reach February half-term, I really start to look forward to the days lengthening and brightening... and the light returning at least a little bit.
Despite the cold, the abundant displays of snowdrops in our local area have managed to tempt us out and we've had some lovely wintry walks outside, and these little snowdrop fairies (below) made their way to the Museum in the Park, Stroud for their annual snowdrop event alongside their re-opening weekend. It feels like something of a local tradition to mark the start of the new year, and making the fairies always fills me with a sense of excitement - when the snowdrops pop up, it feels like a joyful announcement of a fresh new year beginning. So tiny and white and delicate, but also triumphant in their abundance!

Around this time of year, I also start to think about and design fairies and other creative projects for the year ahead, and in doing so I take some time as well to look back over the fairies that flew the nest in the previous year. There were quite a few that for one reason or another didn't make it into a blog post so I'll share some of these here :-)
These little flower fairies flew the nest last autumn with their colours full of the warmth and vibrance of the season...

The fairies below include another little trio of snowdrop fairies that I really loved making last year - the gently sparkling white felt, tiny shawls, winter boots and the snowdrops they are carrying are handmade as well. There are also some Christmassy fairies that went out last year, and as well as a trio of fairy tale flower fairies, and some very cute curly haired whimsical fairies too.
Although the fairies in the pictures below went off to different places at different times I think they would have really complemented each other as a little collection and in fact, I'm currently drawing inspiration from them for another custom fairy that is in the pipeline and I've been busy felting a lots of little hearts in preparation :-)
Looking back occasionally and reflecting on all the fairies that have flown the nest in the last year or so always brings new ideas for designs that I feel really excited to make over the coming year!

The project below was actually gifted to me by my lovely sister at Christmas - it's a latch-hook cushion kit by The Crafts Collective.
I don't seem to find too much spare time for my own 'just for fun' projects these days, but this was such a lovely gift, I really didn't want it to sit in it's box in a cupboard forever, so during some of my lunch breaks since January I've been having a go at this new-to-me craft - and I'm so far really enjoying it! The repetitive latching and knotting technique is so simple and soothing. It's reminding me to stay in the moment, too - I glance up at the uncompleted pattern from time to time and it's easy to feel impatient - I can't wait to see the end result! But then I return to the knotting, the light concentration bringing me back to the steps right in front of me. Amidst a busy day it also feels like a small luxury to pick up a project that is already prepared for me and hasn't required heaps of planning or sourcing of materials. I would definitely recommend to any craft lovers, as something both creative and purposeful, to try if you haven't already...

We've managed a few wintery walks, and even though it wasn't the brightest day and it was very cold, we really loved our family walk around Painswick Rococo Garden (pics below) to see the snowdrops that were out in abundance... I'm so grateful as well that our teenagers still like to come out on walks with us and it was so lovely to see them enjoying the gardens and the snowdrops as much as us!
Wherever this blog post finds you, wishing you plenty of bright days ahead full of light skies, growing warmth, excitement for any projects and plans of your own, and lots of uplifting moments out and about in the springtime... ♥
